Mrembo Spa is a small, traditonal spa where guests can learn about Swahili beauty rituals in which only natural and indigenous herbal flowers and spices are used. Mrembo Spa is located in the heart of Stone Town close to the Catholic church and at Mtoni Marine Resort, offering ancient beauty rituals from Pemba and Unguja.
Mrembo is a place where visitors can spend an entire day pampering themselves with various treatments, sip fresh ginger/lemongrass tea whilst learning about Henna and other Zanzibari traditions. All of this done with the sound of melodious Taarab music in the background.
With the mysterious smell of “Udi” incense made out of sugar, rosewater and musk visitors can shop for local crafts made of Ukili (wild date palm), Kanga clothing and all scrubs, oils, incenses, soaps and fragrant flowers used at Mrembo, all very tastefully wrapped to make perfect gifts to take home.
Some of the traditional treatments:
Singo - a natural scrub traditionally used two weeks prior to when a Zanzibar girl gets married.
Vidonge - a clove scrub from Pemba which is refreshing and gives the body a wonderful boost.
Harusi Special - Bridal Special with Singo for “her” and Clove Packing for “him”, henna painting gift for the bride, “Udi” ceremony, flower arrangement and more..
Hot “Mbarika” leaf massage - The leaves of the Mbarika plant (Castor seed) are soaked in hot water and used in a Swahili massage.
