Alojado en un fuerte colonial alemán, construido en 1886, un fenómeno histórico, ha sido declarado Monumento Nacional. El Museo se abrió al público en 1987 con las exhibiciones que muestran el origen de la humanidad y los hallazgos de homínidos en Olduvai Gorge y las huellas de Laetoli. Entomología - insectos de importancia económica y social, exhibiciones de ecología de la naturaleza y la vida silvestre, historia del fuerte alemán de Arusha (Boma) y exhibiciones de animales vivos. Hay un ala dedicada a la evolución de los humanos. También hay exhibiciones sobre insectos, la historia de Arusha durante la era colonial alemana y muchas fotos y monturas de vida silvestre.
