Directions to The Slipway
The Slipway is Dar es Salaam's premier waterfront shopping and leisure centre. It is the only place in Dar es Salaam where you can do your shopping while enjoying the evocative view of Msasani Bay and the breeze off the Indian Ocean.
The Slipway began life as a boatyard, from which you can still set sail. Their boats leave regularly for the nearby island of Bongoyo, the first marine reserve in Tanzania. Fishing trips, cruises and sea crossings to Mafia, Zanzibar and Pemba can also be arranged.
Children can play at the waterfront playground while parents shop, drink, dine or enjoy a sundowner while watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Dine in style, relax in comfort, go shopping or take it easy, all conveniently at one venue.
Along with the best bookshop and supermarket in town, the center has a bank, a pharmacy, a beauty salon, an internet café, a travel agent, a traditional souk market and bazaar market for souvenir shopping, jewellers, home decor shops, a selection of shops selling unique 'made in Tanzania' wares and produce, four restaurants and a hotel.
To please the kids, an ice cream parlour, fresh juices and smoothies at the Juice Box, a candy shop and more is available.
Departing at regular intervals from the center are traditional boat trips to the nearby island to snorkel and explore the diverse marine life amid the coral. A PADI dive center takes divers to the best diving locations in the vacinity.
For the family, trips around the Msasani Bay and beyond can be arranged on glass bottom boats.
