Description
Discover the Zanzibar that lies beyond the resorts on a guided ATV adventure through the rural landscapes of Kiwengwa.
Meet the Z Quad Explorer team at the base, receive your helmet and safety equipment, and listen to a clear safety briefing and riding instructions. Once you feel comfortable, climb onto your modern 400cc quad bike and follow your local guide along sandy tracks, country roads and exciting off-road trails.
As the busy coastal areas disappear behind you, ride into a landscape of tropical plantations, open farmland and towering trees. Pass baobabs, coconut palms and crops such as cloves, cinnamon, mangoes and sugar cane while your guide explains how farming and Zanzibar’s spice heritage continue to shape everyday life on the island.
Pause among the plantations to taste seasonal tropical fruits, which may include fresh papaya, pineapple or other locally grown produce. Learn how the fruits and spices are cultivated and enjoy a refreshing break surrounded by the scents and sounds of rural Zanzibar.
Continue into a local village, slowing down to experience the community respectfully. See residents going about their daily lives, from farming rice and sugar cane to producing rope from coconut fibre. Visit a traditional community stop, meet local residents and hear stories about family life, customs and work from a guide who knows the area personally.
The adventure continues through changing terrain towards the coast. Depending on the day’s local activity, pass working farms, village paths and a fishing area before reaching a scenic beach. Take time to enjoy the ocean views, capture photographs with your quad bike and relax before beginning the ride back to Kiwengwa.
Throughout the approximately 3.5-hour experience, enjoy a balance of off-road excitement, tropical scenery, cultural discovery and carefully selected photo stops. The route is suitable for both first-time riders and experienced guests, with your guide accompanying the group throughout the journey.
More than simply a quad bike ride, this is an opportunity to experience a less-visited side of Zanzibar with a locally owned team. Leave with memorable photographs, new riding experiences and a greater understanding of the landscapes and communities that make the island unique.
