Description

Nature Meets History. Jozani Forest: Begin your adventure with a comfortable pickup from your hotel and head straight to Jozani Forest, a sanctuary for rare red colobus monkeys. Walk through the forest with a private guide who speaks your language and learn about the local flora and fauna. Spot troops of monkeys as they scramble through the branches and, if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the well-camouflaged chameleon. Continue your journey with a walk along the mangrove boardwalk. Spot crabs and tropical fish as your guide explains the importance of mangroves to environmental conservation and village life. SPICE FARM: After Jozani Forest, head straight to our spice farm to discover the secrets of Zanzibar’s organic spices. Zanzibar is well known as “Spice Island”. Learn how Zanzibar’s spices are grown and used in cooking, medicine, and cosmetics. Touch, smell, and taste fresh produce such as cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, pineapple, jackfruit, durian, and more. Visit a spice shop to see handcrafted and end products while having the chance to purchase your favourites. Another quick break to taste some fresh Zanzibar's special tropical fruits, like Watermelon, Red Banana, Yellow Banana, Pineapple, Mangoes, Oranges and Jackfruit. STONE TOWN: Gain fascinating insights about vibrant history of Zanzibar through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit landmarks like the Former Slave Market Historical site, the old Arab Sultan's Palace, the Old Fort, Forodhani Garden, House of Wonder, and see the house where Freddie Mercury was born. Stroll through the narrow streets of the Old Town to the City Market, where locals sell fresh fruits and utensils. Observe the vibrant hustle and bustle of the fresh fish auction while learning about the history of everything you see around you. A few minutes' walk away from the City Market, explore the famous Old Slave Market site and the Anglican Church. Zanzibar was the primary hub and the world's last open slave market for the East African slave trade, which was predominantly run by Omani Arabs from the 8th to the late 19th century. The trade continued illegally for years, and the institution of domestic slavery itself was not fully abolished until a final decree in 1897, with some informal practices reportedly continuing until the 1960s. OPTIONAL: Get the chance to pay on your own (10 USD per person) to enter the former slave market historical site to see the slave monuments and small slave chambers in which slaves were kept starving while waiting to be sold to new owners. Get a lunch break anywhere in Stone Town if you would like to enjoy your meal or a cup of coffee/ tea. And the shopping chance in Stone Town to purchase your memorable things. Souvenirs, Zanzibar Jersey and others. A drive back to hotel will then shortly take place after finishing the Stone Town tour. A COMPLETE DAY FULL OF VARIOUS EXPERIENCES!
