Full-Day Stone Town, Spice Farm & Prison Island Tour
After a convenient hotel pickup, set off on a full-day guided tour that combines Zanzibar’s rich history, vibrant culture, and natural wonders all in one unforgettable experience.
Stone Town Walking Tour
Begin your day with a guided walking tour through Stone Town, the historic heart of Zanzibar City. Wander through a maze of lively, narrow streets lined with towering limestone buildings, bustling local markets, and traditional shops. Visit key historical landmarks such as the former slave market, Sultan’s Palace, and old Arab mansions, while learning about Zanzibar’s complex and emotional history, including the era of slave trading.
Stone Town, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, reflects a unique fusion of Arab, Indian, Persian, and European influences dating back to the 19th century. As you stroll through its winding alleys, you’ll relive the grandeur of this once-powerful port city.
Spice Farm Experience
After the city tour, you’ll be driven to an organic spice plantation to discover why Zanzibar is famously known as the “Spice Island.” On a guided walk through the farm, learn about the cultivation and traditional uses of spices and tropical crops introduced to the island by Portuguese traders in the 16th century.
Engage your senses as you smell, touch, and taste a variety of fresh spices, herbs, and fruits, including cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom, turmeric, black pepper, chili, lemongrass, coconuts, papaya, cassava, and more.
The experience concludes with a delicious Swahili lunch at the farm, showcasing the rich flavors of Zanzibar’s spice-infused cuisine.
Prison Island (Changuu Island)
In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic boat ride to Prison Island, locally known as Changuu. The island is home to the famous Aldabra Giant Tortoises, originally brought from the Seychelles. Some of these gentle giants are over 100 years old and weigh up to 200 kg, making them a highlight of the visit.
You’ll also learn about the island’s historical role as a prison for rebellious slaves in the 1860s, adding depth and context to this fascinating destination.
After the boat ride back to Stone Town, your driver will transfer you comfortably back to your hotel, marking the end of a memorable day exploring the best of Zanzibar.
