Seaweed Center

Visit the Seaweed Center to learn about Seaweed farming as the second biggest industry on the island of Zanzibar.

Located in Paje, the Seaweed Center creates opporunities for female seaweed farmers to improve their standard of living and engage in economic development activities that benefit the whole community. Gain insight into seaweed farming and understand the hard work that encompasses a seaweed famer's daily life.

The onsite factory tour provides a rare opportunity to view the process from raw seaweed to beauty products. A socially responsible business that produces soaps and creams from seaweed, sold locally and beginning to be distributed throughout East Africa.  Packages of a relaxing day at the beach and lunch packages are also on offer. Upon request, the Seaweed Center tour could easily be adapted to include other east coast activities such as tours of the Josani Forest or Butterfly Centre.
