Description

Begin your adventure with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha and a transfer to Momella Gate. Complete park registration and meet your mountain guide, ranger, cook, and porters. After a safety briefing, start your hike through open grassland and montane forest. On the lower slopes, you may see giraffes, buffaloes, monkeys, antelopes, and a variety of bird species. As you climb higher, the scenery changes from dense forest to heath, moorland, and exposed volcanic terrain. Overnight stays are arranged in mountain huts, allowing you to rest and prepare for the next stage of the trek. Depending on the itinerary, you may also complete an acclimatization hike to Little Meru. The summit attempt usually begins before sunrise. With headlamps, continue along steep and rocky sections toward Socialist Peak. Weather permitting, the summit area offers impressive views of Mount Meru’s crater, volcanic ash cone, surrounding plains, and Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. After celebrating at the summit, descend through the mountain’s different vegetation zones and return to Momella Gate. A driver will then transfer you back to your accommodation in Arusha.
