Description

Leave Arusha behind for a full-day trip to Materuni Village on the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This experience combines nature, culture, food, and light adventure in one day. Walk through coffee and banana plantations, visit the dramatic Materuni Waterfalls, share a traditional Chagga lunch, and learn how local coffee is prepared from bean to cup. After pickup in Arusha, travel by private vehicle through the countryside toward Materuni Village. On arrival, meet your local Chagga guide and begin a walk through fertile farmland and tropical vegetation. Along the way, learn about coffee cultivation, banana farming, traditional plant uses, and daily life in the village. Continue on a guided hike to Materuni Waterfalls, following a trail through lush forest and plantation landscapes. At the falls, take time to relax, enjoy the views, and take photos. If conditions are safe and your guide agrees, you may also approach or swim in the natural pool. Back in the village, sit down for a freshly prepared traditional Chagga lunch. Depending on the day’s menu, the meal may include ugali, rice, beans, seasonal vegetables, banana stew or cooked bananas, meat or chicken, fresh fruit, and local sauces. After lunch, join a hands-on coffee experience led by local hosts. Learn how coffee cherries are selected, dried, roasted over a traditional fire, ground, and brewed. You may also enjoy songs, storytelling, or other cultural elements if available. The day ends with time to interact with the local community before the drive back to Arusha, where the tour finishes with drop-off at your hotel or preferred location.
