You’ll begin with a refreshing seaweed tonic, then explore the studio and farm to see how wild-harvested seaweed is grown, harvested in rhythm with the tides, and transformed into high-performance, handcrafted skincare. Along the way you’ll meet the “Mwani Mamas,” learn about regenerative practices, try signature products like soaps and scrubs, and gain insight into a supply chain built on sustainability and community well being. Mwani Zanzibar is a regenerative skincare social enterprise based in Paje, on Zanzibar’s east coast. It is women-led, working closely with coastal farming communities (the “Mwani Mamas”) to sustainably farm seaweed and transform it into high-performance skincare. Their work bridges traditional knowledge, marine ecology, science, and ethical business practice. Seaweed is abundant in Zanzibar’s nutrient-rich waters; Mwani focuses on harvesting it in ways that support marine health (not depleting ecosystems), and adding value locally rather than exporting raw seaweed.
