Description

Embark on a cultural tour of Tumbatu Island. Visit the local fish and furniture market, the local cargo dhows and fishing boats, and enjoy a local breakfast. Learn about the island's history and culture from your guide. Start your tour at 9:00 AM from Mkokotoni local dhow harbor and fishing village. Do a short visit of the place before heading to Tumbatu Island. Take a 30-minute boat ride to the island. Stop at the lagoon to learn the fishing methods used by locals and their fishing traps. Visit different areas to experience the local’s daily life, from the harbor to meet with dhow crafters and fishermen repairing the nets to the old baobab trees which used to be a school/classroom. Proceed to the interesting part of the tour by visiting a spiritual healer and learn about traditional, spiritual, and ritual treatments and herbs. Visit the Shiraz ruins, the earliest settlers and the local rulers of the Zanzibar Islands and Tumbatu Island before the 12th century. Enjoy a hot local lunch at the end of the tour, including rice, coconut curry, seafood, and fruits.
