Description

This well-known tour will take you to Zanzibar's rural districts while meeting with locals and learning about the island's centuries-long history as the hub of the Spice Trade. Spices were introduced from Asia and Latin America in the 16th century and today thrive in Zanzibar's lush tropical climate. Our guided trip takes you through towns and plantations, where farmers will teach you about, taste, and smell cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, lemon grass, cloves, ylang-ylang, cumin, ginger, pepper, tamarind, chilli, and other spices. You will also be able to sample freshly picked tropical fruits such as mangoes, passion fruit, avocado, papaya, local grapefruits, bananas, pineapples, and more. Your teacher will explain the culinary and medical use of spices and herbs. Conclude your excursion by visiting the plantation's spice shop, where you can purchase freshly gathered spices to enhance your home cooking. Lunch will consist of traditional Zanzibar food flavoured with local herbs and cooked in a local kitchen.
