Description

Embark on a morning excursion beginning with pickup from your hotel, followed by a drive to Stone Town. The itinerary commences with a boat trip to Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island, A journey of approximately 20 minutes. Upon arrival at Prison Island, you will visit the historic prison facility, constructed in 1893. Initially intended to accommodate violent offenders from the mainland and individuals afflicted with disease, the site now offers a glimpse into the island's past. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to explore the tortoise sanctuary, home to a significant population of giant tortoises originally introduced from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. Following the visit to Prison Island, the tour continues with a guided walk through Stone Town. This UNESCO World Heritage site is remarkable for its remarkably preserved urban structure and townscape, featuring numerous distinguished buildings that reflect a unique cultural synthesis. Over the course of more than a millennium, Stone Town has integrated African, Arab, Indian, and European influences, creating a distinctive cultural heritage.
