Description

After being picked up at your meeting point, begin your day with a guided walking tour of Stone Town, the historic heart of Zanzibar City. Explore notable sites such as the former slave markets, lively daily markets, winding alleyways, and landmarks like the Sultan’s Palace and grand Arab mansions. Learn about Stone Town’s unique blend of cultural influences—Arabian, Indian, Persian, and European—and its UNESCO World Heritage status. Next, visit a spice plantation farm to discover why Zanzibar is called the “Spice Island.” Walk through the farm with your guide, who will explain the cultivation, uses, and history of spices like cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, and more. Experience the aromas and flavors by smelling, touching, and tasting fresh spices, herbs, and tropical fruits such as coconut, papaya, and lemongrass. After the tour, enjoy a traditional Swahili lunch complemented by seasonal tropical fruits, experiencing the rich culinary heritage of Zanzibar. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island). Explore the historic prison buildings and visit the sanctuary for Aldabra giant tortoises, some of which are over 199 years old and weigh up to 200 kilos. Interact with these remarkable creatures and learn about the island’s history as a former prison for rebellious slaves. After your memorable day exploring Stone Town, the spice plantation, and Prison Island, you’ll be taken back to your hotel.
