Description

Begin your adventure with a visit to Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island. Originally a quarantine station and later a prison, the island is now a sanctuary for giant Aldabra tortoises. These gentle creatures can live up to 150 years or more. Interact with them and learn about their habitat, diet, and conservation status. The tortoises roam freely on the island, allowing you to get up close and personal with these magnificent animals. Next, head to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, Zanzibar's only national park. Covering an area of approximately 50 square kilometers, the park is a lush forest ecosystem, featuring a variety of plant and animal species. Take a guided tour through the forest, spotting unique wildlife like the Kirk's red colobus monkey, one of Zanzibar's endemic species. The forest is also home to various bird species, including the Fischer's turaco and the Zanzibar red bishop. Learn about the importance of conservation and the impact of human activities on the environment. Both Prison Island and Jozani Forest are involved in conservation efforts, protecting Zanzibar's unique biodiversity.
