Begin your experience with an introduction by trained marine guides who explain the importance of coral reefs to the coastal ecosystem, their role in supporting fisheries, protecting shorelines, and sustaining biodiversity. Head to an active coral restoration site, often a marine nursery where young coral fragments are cultivated on ropes or frames before being transplanted back onto degraded reef areas. Under supervision, take part in simple restoration activities such as planting coral fragments or cleaning nursery structures, giving you a hands-on role in protecting Zanzibar’s underwater heritage.
