Description

Embark on a 4-day trek to Mtae and explore the natural beauty of the Usambara Mountains. Trek through the Magamba rainforest, interact with locals, visit the pottery village, and learn about the local way of life. Day 1: 8-10hrs After breakfast, start walking through the villages uphill to the Magamba rainforest. Pass by the natural forest, home of black and white Columbus monkeys, two-horned chameleons, and enjoy the beautiful landscape. Have your picnic lunch somewhere in Magamba village. Spend the night at the Bush Baby Homestay and Campsite in Lukozi. The lodge is basic but neat and offers self-contained rooms. Day 2: 4-5 hrs After breakfast, start walking through the villages of Mgwashi, farming areas, and have lunch at the Rangwi Sister’s Convent. Spend the night there and enjoy the lovely landscape. Interact with the local ethnic groups in traditional villages and learn about traditional local ways of living. Visit traditional irrigation practices by the Shambaa and learn about medicinal and spiritual herbs. Day 3: 3-4 hrs Trek through the villages to the pottery village for a workshop. Continue along the escarpment of the mountains to Mtae. Enjoy a world-class view of about 180 degrees over Tsavo West, Kenya, and Kilimanjaro. Visit the pottery workshop and learn how to make pots using clay soil. Keep hiking to the end through the escarpment of the Usambara Mountains while enjoying nice views of the plain.
