Discover two of Zanzibar’s most iconic spots in one day. Start with a boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island) to see the historic prison ruins, giant tortoises, and beautiful turquoise waters. Then continue to Nakupenda Sandbank, where you can relax on soft white sands, swim, snorkel, and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Your experience begins in Stone Town, where you board a traditional dhow or speedboat for a short ride to Prison Island (Changuu Island). Once there, you explore the old prison building built in the 19th century and learn about its unique history. You’ll visit the giant Aldabra tortoise sanctuary, home to some tortoises over 100 years old. You’ll have time for photos, walking around the island, and swimming in the clear waters before continuing your adventure. Next, the boat takes you to Nakupenda Sandbank, a breathtaking natural sand strip surrounded by bright blue ocean. Here you can relax in the sun, swim, or snorkel among colorful fish.
