Description

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut Begin with a transfer from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha to Marangu Gate, the starting point of the Marangu Route (approx. 6,100 ft / 1,860 m). After completing registration and briefings, start trekking through a lush tropical rainforest. Along the way, spot blue monkeys and other wildlife. The trail is steady and scenic, gradually ascending through dense forest. After about 3–4 hours of hiking, arrive at Mandara Hut (approx. 8,860 ft / 2,700 m) where you’ll enjoy dinner and spend your first night on the mountain in comfortable mountain huts. Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut After an early breakfast, continue your trek from Mandara Hut, ascending out of the rainforest into the moorland zone. The landscape opens up to rolling hills covered in heather and grasses with panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s majestic peaks—Kibo and Mawenzi. The trail is longer and steeper today, taking approximately 5–6 hours. Arrive at Horombo Hut (approx. 12,200 ft / 3,720 m), a popular high-altitude camp where you rest and acclimatize for the next part of your journey.
