Description
Explore the very heart of Africa and her vast array of wildlife on this safari! Starting in Nairobi, our guests will highlight the culture of Kenya and then migrate to the Masai Mara National Reserve. There we will have opportunities to see massive herds of wildebeest and many other species migrating across the landscape. We often see big cats and other Big 5 species such as cape buffalo, elephants and sometimes rhinoceros. Thomson’s gazelle, topi, hartebeest, hippopotamus and many species of birds may also be seen. We will also visit a traditional Maasai Village and see, firsthand, their way of life. From there, we will visit 2 different areas of the Serengeti National Park. Our first stop in the northern area of the park is along the Mara River, where we will have our best opportunity to see an iconic migration! The next location is in the heart of the Serengeti called the Short Grass plains. Short grass plains are our best opportunity for cheetah, hartebeest, ostrich and potential natural predation. We will also visit the Kopis (rock formations) for potential leopard, klipspringer antelope, rock python and lion sightings. Heading south to Ngorongoro we will stop for wildlife along the way. Guests will be able to visit the Olduvai Gorge and Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dr. Leakey discovered hominid species here of the first humans to walk upright and scientists still work to discover more fossils and artifacts. The following day, we will explore the Ngorongoro Crater! The wide open expanse of the crater enables guests some of the best unobstructed wildlife viewing and photography. Lion, hyena, cape buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, elephant, and even the rare black rhinoceros may be seen. The water in the crater is a pristine habitat for flamingos and many other species of birds. From there, we will journey from the crater rim to Lake Manyara National Park where we will drive into a jungle atmosphere of huge trees allowing us to see blue monkeys, huge populations of baboons, up close elephants and other wildlife. We will then head to our luxury lodge to settle in for the evening. One our last day of the tour, we will head to the Africa Galleria where guests will be able to do some end of tour shopping. The Galleria has available wood art, paintings, and jewelry specializing in Tanzanite. After shopping we will take a cultural village tour to see how local Tanzanians grow bananas, make wood art, and taste local banana beer. After the tour we will have a traditional African meal made by Mama Africa. We then drive to the Mt. Meru Hotel to settle in and enjoy the beautiful grounds for the evening. Your tour ends at the Mt Meru Hotel and we can organize transportation to the airport from there!Includes
