Description

Begin your adventure with a journey through the Joani Forest in the southern part of Zanzibar Island. Discover unique species, such as the rare Zanzibar red colobus monkey, as you wander through the forest. On the mangrove boardwalk, watch Indian Ocean tropical fish gracefully swimming amongst the mangrove roots and observe agile crabs scuttling across the mud, guided by the ebb and flow of the tide. Learn how Zanzibar’s wildlife evolved in isolation from the mainland, follow a boardwalk through a mangrove swamp, and walk between towering eucalyptus and mahogany trees that provide essential habitat for native birds. Head back to the boat for the journey to Nakupenda Sandbank. Once there, step onto the soft, untouched beach and get ready for a picnic lunch. Feast on a delicious spread of local seafood delicacies. After lunch, make use of the snorkeling equipment to explore the vibrant underwater world surrounding the sandbank. Relax on the sand, sunbathe, or engage in water activities like beach volleyball or paddleboarding. Finally, take a boat ride offshore to Prison Island, also called 'Changuu' in Swahili. It is the home to large land tortoises that were imported from Seychelles. Also, learn about the island’s historic use as a prison for rebellious slaves in the 1860s. The Aldabra Giant Tortoise sanctuary is a significant draw for tourists, boasting a 200-year-old resident as its oldest. These non-indigenous, majestic creatures weigh an average of 200 kg and can live over 100 years. End of the tour
