Description

This full day tour has several options depending on your preferences Options 1 (& 2): Chemka Hot Springs & Coffee Tour (& Waterfalls) After collecting you, we drive approximately 45 minutes on a smooth tarmac road, followed by 45 minutes on a dirt track, until we reach the hot springs - a magical oasis hidden by lush greenery. The water of this natural spring is turquoise blue and crystal clear and invites you to a refreshing dive over 6 meters depth. We can chill here for a few hours, before beginning the drive back to Kingstone Asilia. (Option 2 - we also take you for a quick visit to Mangalia waterfalls enroute). Here you'll have a delicious home-cooked vegetarian lunch, prepared by our own chef, with fresh ingredients bought that day in the market, or harvested from the farm. You may also get the chance to try some local banana beer if you dare! Then begins the coffee tour. We'll talk you through the history of coffee and the first stages of coffee as a seed. On our walk around the farm, we'll show you some traditional Tanzanian medicinal plants and tell you the fun stories of how they are used. Finally we'll reach the mature coffee trees and working together we will be pick the ripe coffee cherries, and fill a basket ready for processing. You will use our traditional hand-powered pulping machine to remove the pulp from the coffee cherry, and leave your harvested beans to dry in the sun. We'll take some pre-dried beans and show you how to pound them with a fun song and dance to remove the outer layer (hulling). Next its time for roasting! We roast our beans over a small charcoal fire, before a second round of pounding to produce ground roasted coffee. And finally, you will drink a fresh cup of your own processed coffee, complete with a traditional Tanzanian sweet snack. :) Option 3: Napuru Waterfalls & Coffee Tour If you prefer hiking, join us to discover a stunning waterfall at the end of a beautiful walk through nature! We start with the coffee tour at Kingstone Asilia, followed by lunch, then drive to the starting point of the hike on the slopes of Mount Meru. We will hike down through lush rainforest to the river bed, enjoying a spectacular view of the valley on the way. Now fully immersed in nature, we will follow the river along the stony valley floor, crossing streams, marvelling at mossy rock formations, and the tropical wildlife. If you book this hike during the rainy season, you may find yourself wading through the water for an even more exciting and nature-filled experience! Finally we will reach the majestic Napuru waterfalls, a powerful force of nature cascading down 78m to a natural pool below. You can even climb up to stand beneath the waterfall for the perfect photo. We'll take some time to chill here at the waterfall before dropping you back at your accommodation. Options 4, 5 and 6: Each of the above activities are offered individually if desired.
