KILIMANJARO TRIP - 1 DAY RONGAI ROUTE ITINERARY Day 1: Departure from Moshi Start your adventure early in the morning with a pickup from your hotel in Moshi. After a hearty breakfast, you will drive to the Rongai Gate, which takes approximately 2-3 hours. Upon arrival at the gate, you will complete the necessary registration and meet your trekking guide and support staff. Trek Begins: The trek begins at the Rongai Gate (1,950 meters). The first part of the hike takes you through lush rainforest, where you can enjoy the diverse flora and fauna. The trail is relatively gentle, allowing for a comfortable ascent as you make your way to the first campsite. Lunch Stop: After about 3-4 hours of hiking, you will reach a scenic viewpoint where you can take a break for lunch. Enjoy a packed lunch while soaking in stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Continue Trekking: Post-lunch, continue your trek towards Kikelewa Caves (3,600 meters), which is approximately another 2-3 hours away. This section of the trail offers breathtaking vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro and its unique ecosystems. Summit Attempt (Optional): If conditions permit and if you’re feeling adventurous, some groups may opt for an evening summit attempt to reach Mawenzi Peak (4,500 meters) before returning to Kikelewa Caves for an overnight stay. However, this option requires prior acclimatization and should be discussed with your guide. Return Journey After enjoying the views and taking photographs at Kikelewa Caves, begin your descent back to Rongai Gate. The return trek typically takes about 4-5 hours. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll sign out and receive a certificate of completion for your trek. Transfer Back to Moshi Finally, enjoy a celebratory drink before being transferred back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest after an exhilarating day on Kilimanjaro.
